<description>I have always said that I need to hear music, talk radio or some other noise when I&#039;m working to quiet down (or drown out) all the other voices in my head. What I did not realize was there was a lot of research on this.

First here is a link to a free color noise website. Give it a try, there are multiple colors of noise. White, pink, brown. who knew? http://www.simplynoise.com/
Also there are soundscapes (thunder) and links to Iphone and android apps.

Cool beans.

Interestingly the music part was discussed on the Dennis Prager show the other day. He  interviewed the authors of a new book
http://www.healingatthespeedofsound.com/

I found it fascinating, they said something we all know but probably never thought about: We are bombarded by sound constantly from invitro to death. It is the only sense we don&#039;t shut off. What are the chances sound has an effect on our mental health? Duh!

How can we control sound (or lack thereof) to improve our lives?

I&#039;m pretty much a do it yourself kind of guy, I&#039;m skeptical of a lot of what I hear (no pun intended) so I won&#039;t give an opinion on either but if it works for you fantastic.

Healing at the Speed of Sound: How What We Hear Transforms Our Brains and Our LivesBy Don Campbell, Alex Doman

Here is the Amazon blurb:
The bestselling author of The Mozart Effect taps cutting- edge science to show how we can use sound to improve our lives and achieve our goals.
Based on over a decade of new research, Don Campbell, bestselling author of The Mozart Effect, and Alex Doman, an expert in the practical application of sound and listening, show how we can use music-and silence-to become more efficient, productive, relaxed, and healthy.
Each chapter focuses on a single aspect of everyday life, providing advice, exercises, wide-ranging playlists, and links so readers can use the music they love to create the perfect soundtrack for any goal or task. Also included are &quot;Sound Profiles&quot;-brief stories showing how real people creatively tap the power of sound to improve their own and others&#039; lives.
Inspiring, practical, and truly enjoyable, Healing at the Speed of Sound opens the door to a fuller, richer, and much more harmonious life.
