What Is “Borderline Personality Disorder”?

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)

BPD is a mental illness that affects people within particular localized geographical areas. Patients with BPD exhibit signs of “border obsession.”

Diagnosis

A patient with BPD will exhibit all three of the following symptoms

1. obsessive concern with border control
2. obsessive concern with border crossings
3. obsessive concern with the flow of illegal immigrants across the borderline

In addition, patients with BPD are likely to reside in Arizona, California (usually the southernmost regions), and areas of Texas. However, small clusters of BPD have been found in Maine, Oregon, Washington and Kansas.

Etiology

Definitive etiology has not been established. Investigations have noted several common factors: excessive amounts of warm weather that are known to adversely affect logical reasoning skills¹; a high rate of political conservatism²; an inflated sense of importance of their personal problems when compared to the problems of the non-BPD population.

BPD in Children

An analysis of childrens’ drawings can help in the early diagnosis of BPD. For example, the drawing below shows the telltale signs of early onset BPD: border demarcation and the depiction of an authority figure entrusted to enforce the border demarcation.

Treatment

At this point in time there seems to be no successful treatment for BPD. The FDA has approved human trials of a controversial treatment regimen that requires rebuilding the atrophied logical skills combined with an intense dose of history. However, recent developments in Texas – specifically the rewriting of history textbooks – show how BPD can become an intractable disorder that causes BPD suffers to resist treatment.
