I think, to some degree, Chuck is so far out in the forefront that it will take a number of years to develop the vocabulary and concepts needed to make the conceptual leap from "brain," which is where he is now (the pure "mechanics" of it) to mind (the thought processes themselves) without becoming reductionistic in the process. I have an upcoming post that touches this issue somewhat tangentially but is applicable nonetheless. That post is really a snippet of a fascinating book called "Why the Mind is Not a Computer."

Cont.

Chuck Parker is right in the forefront now in disseminating - as soon as he learns it and codifies it - the newest understandings; that is, that the brain resides in the body and while we had come to see how the brain is the Great Influencer, he shows us that the brain is also the Greatly Influenced.

My own experience with AD/HD and assorted other brain troubles provides me with a surfeit of evidence that everything is connected to everything; that most people are clueless about the most basic of body/brain functions; that parents of kids with brain quirks have to do the homework and, often, educate their doctors; that the future of good treatment for AD/HD is not going to come from psychiatry; that things are still essentially lousy; and that they will get better as long as we get a Public Option.

Jeff, this is a great, great analysis of where we are now in the world of AD/HD treatment. As long as it was thought to be a behavior disorder, people "ran programs" on kids. In time, a few forward thinkers saw it was a cognitive disorder, and since cognition is in the brain, they treated that with medications. (Now, we have other brain treatments that are coming into their own, as well.)

Thanks for the tip there Jeff... I somehow passed that up. As I just mentioned over there, c'mon the site looks pretty creepy to begin with! I have to be more careful, I send out topics via email and haven't always checked them, or I plan on getting back to them and get distracted by something else. I do see what you mean by the 'G' word being taken advantage of. That happens, unfortunately, with everything it seems.

And, it seems....in the record book for lengthiest comments! And I do think, finally, the topic of "G" may be exhausted. But, you know, the real issue with any of this "G" stuff was in evidence in a recent post on your ADDERWorld Ning site. The person found this charlatan - http://www.instantaddsuccess.com/ - and was almost tempted to spend money on this nonsense.

The site has this testimonial:

"Tellman and Stephanie encouaged the budding entrepaneur and showed some ways that ADD people are great for it because they are not stuck in the mud they constantly see new ways to do new things!" - Kris Koenig

Based on this testimonial it would seem that Tellman and Stephanie are in the wrong business. They should be teaching ADHDers the secret techniques used to check spelling of woids. ;)

Hi Jeff.

Whew! You and I may end up in the record books for longest posts EVER! lol - I finally finished this yesterday and wrote a lengthy comment that wasn't accepted by your system :( Any who, I thought it was funny and found a lot of truth within the lines and often directly in the open. I think I understand you better now, especially about 'G'! I had a lot to say about that in my comment, but for now, let's say it's good to read and know the source of your 'interest' :)
