I have had a lot of fun reading about Dr. Baughman and his faithful side-kick Bob Collier. If you’ve read my various posts about these two gentlemen, you will have learned that:
- Bob Collier, an expert on “A.D.H.D. as a Fraud Perpetrated on Innocent Children” has never had any experience with A.D.H.D.
- Bob Collier’s research methodology consists of lying back in his Barcalounger®, examining his own mind - finding that it is empty - and thereby concluding that the concept of A.D.H.D. is also empty and, therefore has no basis in reality.
- Bob Collier himself has no basis in reality. He probably does not exist.
- Dr. Baughman, on the other hand, has lots of things in his mind and believes lots of things…but only if he can see them.
- Dr. Baughman can not see the cause of most - if not all - psychological problems. Therefore, such things as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, P.T.S.D., asperger’s syndrome, A.D.H.D., and so on, do not exist.
Based on their own writings we can conclude that the Baughman-Collier Parallel Universe is a wonderfully happy, simple and problem-free place. Such maladies as hyperactivity and post traumatic stress disorder just do not exist. And I am willing to bet that in this parallel universe the sun shines every day, there is no poverty and democracy reigns supreme.
I am sure that many of us wish we could live in their universe. Unfortunately the vast majority are firmly planted in that other universe where life is not simple and where psychological problems do exist. In our universe, we believe we must find solutions to these psychological problems. In their universe, they believe that these problems do not exist at all.

In the “World According to Baughman,” Asperger’s Syndrome is another one of those nonsensical psychiatric “diseases.” For those of you who prefer to remain deluded by the psychiatric community, you may want to amuse yourself by visiting the Asperger Society website.

“Psychiatrists go to medical school like all physicians, learn how to distinguish normal/no disease from abnormal/disease. However, having gotten their MD degree, they begin their residency training in psychiatry, which is to say, they leave behind the science and practice of medicine–that having to do with real diseases. But they don’t tell there patients, rather they use all of their medical science, to contrive the illusion and fraud that the emotional and behavioral problems the concoct for their DSM are real diseases/abnormalities/chemical imbalances. What is essential for the public to understand is that such illusions of diseases are total, 100% illusions–frauds. So long as we continue to think their is so much as a quark of reality/legitimacy to them their faux epidemics and the automatic drugging (a real epidemic of poisoning) continue.” [emphasis added]

In the “World According to Baughman,” psychiatric problems do not exist. Our sissified lifestyle, where we mollycoddle children (and increasingly adults) is the cause of all of these “psychiatric problems.” The real problem is a lack of self-control. So gird your loins, stand up straight and tall, stop whining and start showing self-control.

In the “World According to Baughman,” we have all been duped. Seems all of those psychiatric illnesses such as schizophrenia or PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) don’t really exist. That being the case, why doesn’t anyone speak up about it? Simple: they have been bought off by the pharmaceutical companies.

The most amazing discovery has been made by Dr. Baughman. With one swift stroke of his ingenious pen (or should I say keyboard), Dr. Baughman has proven that A.D.D. is not a disease. It just does not exist! Yeah!! We don’t have A.D.D. anymore!! And Dr. Baughman should know. He spent his entire medical career determining if someone did or did not have a disease. He notes that the foundation of psychiatry is the “disease model,” namely that “a brain-based, chemical imbalance underlies mental disease.” And guess what! It ain’t true! As the good doctor tells us, no researcher has found any evidence whatsoever for this model. However, lurking in the background are those sinister shylocks of the drug industry. They just keep inventing drugs and then need some way to sell it. So they invent diseases to go with their drugs. Sounds unbelievable, no? But we know for a fact that this happens in other important areas of life.
In 1993, Toyota began development of a hybrid car. During that time, Al Gore was gainfully employed as the Vice-President of the United States and the movie Inconvenient Truth was not yet made. After the Supreme Court decision Bush v. Gore Gore found that he was out of a job. Here is where the sinister cabal comes into play. Everyone knows those Japs are wily little people and surely they know that global warming is a fraud, that is, it is not an earthly disease. But Toyota still had these hybrid cars and they needed some reason for people to buy them. Fortunately that reason was given to them by the wack-a-doodles in California. The State of California sued Toyota and the other major car manufacturers for allowing their cars to emit large quantities of carbon dioxide and other stuff. Well, the rest, as they say, is history. Toyota saw a copy of Inconvenient Truth, listened to the testimony at the California trial and then had the perfect reason to push their sissy hybrid cars on the real men of the United States of America.

Be sure to revisit this blog in the near future when I prove that teenage sex is a disorder concocted by the condom manufacturers.

Oh, one more thing. Please ignore this “Rebecca” lady. She thinks she’s got A.D.D. and refuses to acknowledge that it does not exist.

I should probably not be stating this on a publicly accessible website but I feel I have little choice in the matter: I am a brain surgeon. Well, let me clarify that. My area of expertise is brain surgery. This does not mean that I have any experience in the field of brain surgery. However, using my first-hand experience at cutting things open (see this blog posting on slicing chicken breasts) and whatever facts I can discover (I found out that the brain has two hemispheres. Would you like me to show you?) I have declared myself an expert brain surgeon.

We’ve got Holocaust deniers and global warming deniers so it’s not surprising that we have A.D.D. deniers.
The A.D.D. deniers follow an interesting logic:
The “Invention” of A.D.D. by the drug companies.
- Premise 1: Drug companies create drugs.
- Premise 2: Drug companies need a disease that will be “cured” by the drug.
- Premise 3: Drug companies find a bundle of annoying behaviors.
- Premise 4: Drug companies bundle the annoying behaviors into a “package” by giving it a name, such as A.D.D.
- Conclusion: Drug companies have created a market by “inventing” a disease which, coincidentally, is “cured” by the drug they already have in hand.
Now they need the public to accept this new disease as being real and, of course, to accept the “cure” that the drug companies have. So, here’s the next argument.
The “Adoption” of the drug companies’ definition of A.D.D. by the psychiatric community.
- Premise 1: Psychiatric community composed of sycophants.
- Premise 2: Psychiatrists adopt the drug company definition of A.D.D.
- Conclusion: Psychiatrists find A.D.D. everywhere using this definition. They prescribe the “cure” discovered by the drug companies.
Of course there are teeny tiny nuggets of truth buried in these arguments. You’ve got the effect of good ‘ol labeling theory from Sociology 101. You’ve got the tenuous symbiotic relationship between the drug manufacturing and drug dispensing community. You’ve got the shift in the psychiatric community to more pharmacologically-based “cures” which almost always entails drugs.
However, despite these tiny nuggets of truth, none of this necessarily means that A.D.D. doesn’t exist. Ask anyone who has lived with A.D.D. for 20, 30, or 40 years (or more!) and who didn’t know they had it, what it was like to finally be able to explain a whole constellation of behaviors. Ask them about their daily struggles - with or without drugs. How can anyone deny the similar experiences of so many A.D.D. people?
So, what is it that these “deniers” are so afraid of that they refuse to see what everyone else sees? Are they afraid of the reductionistic nature of explaining psychical phenomena in physical biological terms? Are they afraid to admit that sometimes willpower does not conquer all? I’m not sure what their fears are but it’s something. Hopefully the drug companies will come up with a cure for their “disease.”
Some choice quotes from the A.D.D. deniers:
“They made a list of the most common symptoms of emotional discomfiture of children; those which bother teachers and parents most, and in a stroke that could not be more devoid of science or Hippocratic motive–termed them a ‘disease.’”

“I’m possibly the only person involved in the ‘ADHD debate’ that I know of who has no first-hand experience of the problem whatsoever. For me, the subject is entirely to do with ideas and beliefs and how they compare with my own experiences and whatever facts I’m able to discover.”

And now…the alternate view.
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a real disease linked to changes in production of the brain chemical dopamine, two new reports suggest.
