Can You Repeat That?
A recent event made me think that I had some form of processing issue like dyslexia. Someone was telling me to write something down. They spoke slowly and carefully. I stared into my notebook and I wrote it down. I repeated to them what I wrote down. But hours later when I looked at what I wrote…well…something got lost in translation. There was a “disconnect” between what I heard, what I thought I wrote down and what I actually wrote down. This is not the first time this has happened. Others have asked me, “Are we communicating?” They tell me something; they assume I heard what they were saying and yet I completely misinterpret the meaning. (This may be why I prefer to be given written instructions…but even then I see shades of meaning that may not be there.) It turns out that this communications issue may be another one of A.D.D.’s (potential) comorbid conditions. Go here to learn more about this particular aspect of “the gift.”
